Our Review
The Cuisinart SM-50 is the KitchenAid Artisan's most credible competitor. The 5.5-quart bowl is larger, the 500-watt motor is more powerful, the 12 speeds offer finer control, and the 3-year warranty triples KitchenAid's coverage.
The splash guard with pour chute is genuinely useful - add ingredients while mixing without flour clouds. The included whisk, dough hook, and flat mixing paddle cover basic needs. The head lifts via a lever (not a tilt-head) which some users find easier.
The downside: fewer color options (usually silver, red, or white), smaller aftermarket attachment ecosystem, and the brand cachet isn't KitchenAid. If you value specs and warranty over design and ecosystem, the SM-50 is objectively better value at $250.
