Our Review
The KitchenAid Professional 600 is the bowl-lift model for serious bakers. The 6-quart bowl handles double batches of cookie dough and up to 8 pounds of bread dough. The 575W motor doesn't strain even with heavy whole-wheat doughs.
The bowl-lift mechanism is more stable than tilt-head designs - the bowl locks into place with a crank, eliminating head-bob during heavy mixing. All-metal construction (including gears) means this mixer will likely outlive you.
Tradeoffs: it's tall (about 17 inches), heavy (about 30 pounds), and expensive ($550+). It's overkill for casual bakers. But if you bake bread weekly, make large batches, or want a mixer that handles anything without complaint, the Pro 600 is the one.
